XEITO NOVO was formed in 1984 with musicians coming from different musical backgrounds: traditional music from Galicia, jazz, rock, classical music, tango and Argentinian folk music. United by their roots, the Celtic majority of Argentina (the people from Galicia) undertook the first experiment in our country related to traditional music from the Celtic world (Ireland, Scotland, Wales, French Brittany, Galicia and Asturias). It was a folk formation which included traditional instruments (bagpipes, tin whistles, bodrham, laud, accordion) that blend with synthesisers, guitars, violin, drums and bass.
After a traditional start Xeito Novo started to move forward, leaving prejudices behind. Their first cd Xeito Novo was published in 1986. Then, in 1986, Galiamerica came out. The third one, Campustellae, was published in 1997. But the album that was a real turning point when it comes to tradition or progress is Luz de invierno, published in 2000. They have been performing for many years and with a great turnout in festivals and in important venues in Buenos Aires and all over Argentina.
The members of Xeito Novo are: Carlos Fernandez, Carolina Alberdi, Daniel Pazos, Luis G. Lamas, Marcelo Fernandez, Roberto Banech Arnold, Tony Ingiulla and Virginia Alvarez. Their fifth cd, Xanelas –published by Acqua Records in 2005- is a sort of hinge in the recording history of the group. Lito Vitale is the artistic producer and guests include Mimi Maura, Chango Spasiuk, De Boca en Boca, Xoldra and Carlos Fernandez.
