The Marine Band traces it's origin to the fifers and drummers who marched with the Continental Marines during the Revolutionary War. Officially established by an Act of Congress in 1798, The Marine Band is America's oldest musical organization.

John Philip Sousa, the band's 17th director, served from 1880-1892. Although composing and conducting a wide variety of musical styles, during this period he would earn the title, "The March King."

The United States Marine Band continues the tradition of excellence which earned it the title, "The President's Own." Whether in the White House performances, public concerts, or on tour, the msuic of The Marine Band is the music of America.
