The Ultre debut release presents structured musical pieces utilising piano, guitar, home made instruments and electronics.

The Ultre debut release contains complex digital sounds and the distressed acoustic presentations of piano, strings and guitar. His quest for perfection is carefully set against a context of subtle erosion and beautiful mistakes. Ultre embraces artefacts found within acoustic imprecision, wear, and tear and places them within a frame of digital precision. Sound akin to life - needs to be calculatedly imperfect.

Talking about his music Finn comments “I think the music I make is very honest. I have limitations in all instruments and this shapes my music, the struggle to hold down playing or the struggle to keep up with my ideas. This transfers into the making of my own stringed instrument, which I have now played live for about 3 years. Its like a huge metal bow and arrow and is painful to play. The first performance I did with this (my first solo performance ever) was in the foyer of the V&A museum and moments into sound check (as if I wasn't nervous enough) the BBC news crew began filming”. Finn’s instrument features on tracks 1, 3, 5, 9, 10 & 12.

The aesthetic of the music is placed in some nondescript time and place. It appears to draw on the work of artists whose impact has been replaced but not forgotten. Finn believes the form and structure of his music reflects extremely diverse influences “…. What if Buddy Holly had the luxury of exploiting the amazing aesthetic that frames his songs…. or Edith Piaf, what if she could see into the future and look at her whole sound as the beauty it has become.” Technology and science will never cease to out-date beauty and Finn’s perspective allows him to stop, reflect and present beauty in a unique manner.
