In a career spanning over 30 years, Tony Evans has climbed to the peak of the Big Band Scene delivering the latest Chart Hits, Swing, Latin American and Strict Tempo.
Tony, along with his Orchestra, has completed his twelfth year at the Monte Carlo Sporting Club and Casino Cabaret. Where not only has he provided music for dancing, but also backed the prestigious Summer Show coming in from New York and International Artistes, such as Frank Sinatra, Shirley Bassey, The Temptations, Diana Ross, Donna Summer, Whitney Houston, and Barry White, Paul Anka, plus many more. The band was the last European Orchestra to accompany Frank Sinatra in concert in Monaco.
Looking back over the years Tony has performed at some of London’s top venues. In 1968, he worked at the American Club, Bayswater, where he backed other artistes including James Brown, Ike and Tina Turner, Brook Benton and Sarah Vaughan.
In December 1969 The Tony Evans Orchestra and Singers took over from The Joe Loss Orchestra at the Empire Leicester on condition he could be released to go on tours. One of the tours was Expo 70 in Japan where he appeared and provided the musical backing for Mary Hopkins, who at the time was No.1 in the International Hit Parade. His Orchestra was the first choice to accompany Tom Jones, Englebert Humperdink and Gilbert O’Sullivan on their UK and European Tours.
Upon leaving the Empire in 1976, Tony took up residency at the world famous Ballroom Hammersmith Palais, and it was during this time that he went to Perth Australia to play for the World Dance Championships. This led to bigger and better things and he found himself playing regularly for most major dance events, many of which were at London’s Royal Albert Hall, and many of which were televised.
Tony’s no stranger to Radio, Having worked on programmes such as, Terry Wogan’s Radio 1 afternoon show, for which he wrote and recorded the theme tune ‘Breakthrough’ the programme was also hosted by Dave Cash. He also worked on and wrote the theme for David Jacobs late night programme ‘Music Through Midnight.’
