The original Metal Warrior returns! THOR the God of Thunder!
Announcing the 2003 return of Jon Mikl Thor…Yes, THOR, an original showman of rock music, enduring icon and father of glam rock/metal, and one of the true originators of rock theatre; historically fitting somewhere after Alice Cooper, before Kiss, and alongside David Bowie. While never achieving the superstar status of those three acts, Thor has done more than alright, selling hundreds of thousands of records, CDs, tapes, (and 8 Tracks!) over a career that got off the ground on the Merv Griffin show in 1973 and has maintained a steady pace ever since; along the way exploring an impressive terrain of rock-from the tongue in cheek Sweet/Mott the Hoople/Bowie stylings found on the classic Keep the Dogs Away LP (a Canadian classic and well sought after album), to his 80’s and 90’s material of hard hitting metal moves alongside contemporaries such as Manowar and Judas Priest, and flirting briefly with Nu-Rock/Metal in the late 90’s, and coming full circle with Triumphant, an album of gloriously no-nonsense epic Viking punk metal. This album was initially released in a different package in an undistributed edition of 300 on the Thortoen label, this improved edition features improved remastered sound, 3 more songs, and two bonus video clips.
Creating his own niche in the ever-changing world of entertainment fashion has allowed THOR to span decades without ever going out of style, always retaining his integrity and staying true to his godlike status. Starting out in Vancouver he made waves in the bodybuilding world, becoming Mr. Canada and Mr. USA, always using heavy music as an intensive training tool. He blended his powerful physique with powerful rock and thus began this amazing cult legend's long reign in the fuzzy area between superstardom and the dark underground.
Along the way he has become a movie actor and producer, turning out collectible classics like "Rock N Roll Nightmare" and "Zombie Nightmare." His most recent musical appearance is in the new Canadian indie film "Fubar," released this spring at the Sundance Film Festival. He also stars in the new video “FUBAR is a Super Rocker” which is featured on MUCH MUSIC’S LOUD. He now appears in his own comic book "Jon Thor The Rock Warrior".
If Thor was on TV in 1973 as a young adult you can do the math and rightly assume he is blowing up fewer water bottles, bending less steel, having fewer cinder blocks broken over his chest, and winning fewer Mr. USA competitions. Neither is Arnold Schwarzenegger, but he’s doing alright too. What we are getting at is Thor is still an immensely powerful man in incredible shape, a dedicated performer, boasts the wisdom his fantastic and truly unique journey has brought him; and has successfully managed to re-invent himself once again. The legions of fans are still there united, and new generations are finding out for themselves that Thor is as cool now as he ever was in 1978, or 1985, or 1999. Thor is a living legend, and Triumphant is a great new album that does not in any way embarrass his legacy, instead successfully opening the door for several new chapters yet to be written.
