with absolute purpose and sharp literary acumen, los angeles’ the weather underground charts a path of musical exhilaration. there is immediacy to the weather underground, the exciting and original sound of four musicians influenced by punk, soul, blues, and human inspiration.
hailed for thrilling audiences with energetic live performances, the weather underground elevate and enlighten the rock n’ roll landscape. the band members hail from diverse backgrounds, adding perspectives from guatemala, japan, and mexico to delve deep into the essence of the american spirit.
the weather underground released two eps in 2007, handling everything from the production to the packaging entirely themselves. both when i was a solider and psalms and shanties are worthy showcases of the quartet’s chops and have garnered rave reviews including from fans on itunes who discovered the band for themselves. one fan described the band as “musical morphine” while another exclaimed that the weather underground is “destined to make a genius full length record.”
the band’s third ep is entitled bird in the hand and it features five immediately rewarding tracks. from the spanish-language waltz “fight song for the desalojos” to the driving “trainwreck,” from the gloriously spacious title track to the breezy “all ye people,” the weather underground have crafted worthy new additions to their catalogue. bird in the hand will be released on april 22, 2008 at a release party at the troubadour in west hollywood.
the weather underground will tour throughout 2008 and will appear at the bonnaroo music and arts festival in manchester, tn.
