(weewerk) is ecstatic to announce the Canadian signing of The Travelling Band, from Manchester, UK.
(weewerk) will release their EP “The Redemption Of Mr.Tom”, digitally thru Zunior and IODA as well as thru mail order on May 20th. This record was released April 21st in the UK by the band to great response, and is a follow up to their critically acclaimed debut EP “If This Is A Gag, I’m In” and is further proof that their debut album scheduled for a late summer release in Canada and UK will be a corker.
No matter what your taste in music, you can’t help but get drawn in to the modern country-rock sound of The Travelling Band as they have brilliantly clear vocal harmonies with poetic lyrics and an infectious energy. Like any folk-country band worth their salt, The Travelling Band are most at home on stage and have become famed for their live performances at Glastonbury, Homegame Festival, Manchester Academy and the Regal Rooms in London.
This June will see their live debut in Canada where they will showcase at NXNE in Toronto, and several other Ontario venues, to support the EP releases. They will tour North America in the Fall to support the release of their full length album, to be released by (weewerk) in Canada late Aug.
Would sound great on your ipod or a mix tape with: The Shins, The Byrds, Midlake, Wilco, The Eagles, The Stampeders, CCR, Blue Rodeo, United Steel Workers Of Montreal, Crowbar, Great Lake Swimmers, Band Of Horses, Willy Mason…
About the Band:
- There’s a great story behind The Travelling Band, and it all started in Brazil. Guitarist Steve was playing some songs in his hotel room when he was overheard by a New Yorker called Richard Ross. Rich was so impressed by what he had heard that he arranged and paid for Steve and his musical buddies from Manchester to come to New York and record their music. Rich sorted out a recording session at Cowboy Technical services, owned and run by Eric ‘Roscoe’ Amble and Tim Hatfield, the studio that’s produced legendary acts like Steve Earle, Ryan Adams and Regina Spektor. Adam Gorman said, ‘Rich took us to the studio and introduced us to Eric ‘Roscoe’ Ambel, and Tim Hatfield…we slowly started to realize the extent of their involvement with New York music and the industry in general’.

Past Press Quotes:
Manchester Evening News: “…a real pearl!”
Boomkat.com: “jingly, jangly, catchy and with enough spiced weirdness to keep the Drag City crowd happy. The pick for me is the opening track 'Only Waiting' which sounds like it could have been made 40 years ago, which is probably exactly what the band were going for. Lovely.”
Metro UK: “Bursting at the seams with wistful, harmony-laden tunes”
Carol Hodge BBC Manchester: “This is toe-tapping light revelry, all 60s middle Americana. Their finest moments drip richly with a three-way vocal velvet”
Review from Glastonbury competition by efestivals.co.uk: “The Travelling Band are for me the best act of the night by some margin, with gorgeous harmonies, foot tapping rhythms and psychedelic guitar work, this is the kind of music I love. A six piece act with Byrds harmonies, acoustic guitars, and a deep understanding of American folk, with jazz and other influences meandering amongst the jangly guitars and sun shot rhythms. There are four writers in the band so each of them takes turns to sing their songs, seeing this band at a festival this summer they will make you feel great.”
