A musical offering of slow-burning beauty and a sprinkling of countrified charm.
"On After The Last, The Red Thread creates moody alternative pop. "Subject To Change" sounds like it was recorded after far too much partying and far too little sleep. It's hypnotic, like music from a dream. It's reminiscent of The Zombies, a great and greatly underrated 1960s psychedelic pop band. You can't go wrong with those minor chords and spooky organ playing. Like The Sadies, The Red Thread also have a little of that Ennio Morricone spaghetti western sound going on. This is a distinctive and assured album."

"With releases from Red House Painters' Mark Kozelek, My Morning Jacket, Hayden, The Spinanes' Rebecca Gates and a handful of other confident and talented songwriters, San Francisco's Badman Recording Co. is steadily becoming one of the most dependable labels in the indie world. Count former Half Film frontman Jason Lakis's solo debut The Red Thread as one more reason to keep your eyes on this label -- After the Last is an accomplished and charming album from beginning to end." - Mac Weekly**************************
"All the ingredients that go into making a good songwriter's album are present here: interesting voice, intelligent lyrics, a steady rhythm section and a stellar pedal steel. However, even with the checklist sufficiently completed, After the Last doesn't really click right away -- it's one of those albums that takes a good three or four listens before it finally hits. Slowly but surely, Lakis's tunes will seep into your brain, and once they're there, they're damn hard to shake out. This sort of slow-burning album -- Chris Mills's Kiss it Goodbye, Knife in the Water's Red River or the Pernice Brothers' Overcome by Happiness are other examples -- is ultimately the most rewarding. As the album really makes itself at home in your player, each of these songs will present a strong case for being the album's best.**************************
Jason "Red Thread" Lakis has abandoned his more monochrome Half Film persona and taken solace in sombre, tenderly weather-beaten West Coast rock. A countrified cover of "Bad Brains" Sailing, however confirms there's more to Lakis than a simple case of the blues - MOJO
