The Pink Snowflakes started out in the brain of Andy Rossi in the basement of his parent’s house. Initially making its way to four-track and eventually coalescing in a vague nebula of random musicians, the idea grew. The first few line-ups helped to shape the idea, but there was no dedication. They recorded a demo and an EP together, but these players eventually left and by the summer of 2005, Rossi was on his own again. Placing an ad online eventually netted Tom McGregor and the two began playing shows a day after meeting. After a few months of chaos, they needed an anchor for the wall of sound. Dan Groth answered an ad in Craigslist and fit in immediately. During the next six months, the band would employ three drummers and tour around the northwest with their explosive live set. Songs were written, completed, and re-arranged, but they still had not found the right drummer. During a break in the schedule, Dan attended a “We’re From Japan” show at Portland’s Doug Fir. During the set, it was announced that this would be the drummer’s final performance with the band. Dan seized the opportunity and convinced Scott Smith that The Pink Snowflakes would be a perfect fit. After one rehearsal, everyone agreed that Scott made everything complete! During the next two weeks, the band rehearsed and helped build Red Lantern Studios in North East Portland and began tracking on June 20. In the past year, the band has played to enthusiastic audiences up and down the west coast, opening for such national acts as The Black Angels, The Dilettantes, The Quarter After, and The Village Green. They are currently planning a mini tour with RunRunRun and a larger summer tour.
