The Magnificents formed while they were still at Edinburgh College of Art, although they soon gave up on the ways of academia when the four piece discovered the joys of collecting synths, playing guitars upside down, berating soundmen and putting on the sort of legendary small-scale shows that every member of their growing cult following now wants to claim they were at. Mixing the raw punk power of the Stooges with the looping proto-dance floor boffinry of Kraftwerk, they are test pilots for a new sound that should rightfully see them installed as the Jesus & Mary Chain, or ABBA, for the electronic generation.
The band have toured with the likes of Mogwai, The Beta Band and Stereolab while deftly avoiding mainstream success and idiots. They have just (Dec 2006) completed work on their second album 'Year Of Explorers', recorded in Brighton, Glasgow and Edinburgh, it will be out early 2007 preceded by the 'Ring Ring EP.' They live quietly in Edinburgh.
