Nigel has been writing and performing since the early nineties. His first band ‘The Black Squirrels’ were pioneers of the miserablist movement, a kind of Leonard Cohen for the Brit pop generation. Nigel enjoyed the most success with ‘The High Ones’, creating together with Mark Lee a body of classic power pop tunes that travelled well beyond their native London and into Belgium. It was this Belgian connection that took over Nigel’s musical career for a time. The High Ones’ ‘Sunny Day’ was a huge hit in Belgium, distributed through Boom Records and culminating in a major tour. Nigel then worked temporarily for Warner Bros. Belgium as a lyrical consultant and also composed and sang for the Flemish Scouts Movement. Whilst in Belgium Nigel also struck up contact with Tom Robinson who praised the quality and ‘Beatlesque’ qualities of his songs.
But Nigel wasn’t at ease. His songs needed to be heard and in parochial Belgium no one was listening. This year he returned to his native North Country and is now wowing the locals with his great songs. Local media have already picked up on The Low Countries and are awaiting the release of ‘hypericum perforatum’ for worldwide release
