4 years, 2 albums in and just getting started…. From the first rehearsals 4 years ago, when most of the band weren’t old enough to drive, let alone old enough to drink, the Barrymores have had a commitment to becoming one of the hardest working, hardest playing, hardest drinking collectives of musicians. The core group of 5 musicians has been together the whole time, crossing Canada in its entirety 3 times and hitting random US cities when they can, and now having been joined by a permanent 6th member for the past year and half they’re ready to stop ‘figuring it out’ and start doing it. Suffering what seems to be a permanent musical identity crisis they’ve finally stumbled upon what they do best. A firey blend of punk rock, more traditional hard rock, all mixed in with a few overt bits of ska and reggae. Fronted by dynamic, charismatic and beautiful frontwoman Jolene Norton and flanked by a top notch rhythm section that can go from a laid back reggae groove to jazz influenced smooth-ska stylings to circle pit inducing punk rock without spilling their beer, all topped off with a 2 piece horn section to add the proverbial cherry on this musical mixmash of a cake…this band brings a tightness and enthusiasm to the table that can only be provided by a group of people who’ve been friends and band mates for the majority of their lives as teenagers and young adults. They’ve played everything from festival crowds of upwards of 20,000, to main stages at Jazz Festivals to spit and beer soaked punk rock dives and faired great in all of them, they easily sell out all-ages shows in their hometown of Winnipeg, Manitoba, and have built up a strong following in the East. The Barrymores have now set out writing and recording a 3rd record to follow up their sophomore album “All Nighters”, which easily sold out of its first pressing and charted on campus and community charts from coast to coast, breaking into the top 50 most played albums in the Earshot! Charts numerous times.
