Forming in 1989, System 7 began as a collective, also featuring The Orb’s Alex Paterson and Youth.
Providing the conscious link between the techno and house explosion of the 80s and it’s European psychedelic antecedents of the 70s, they have had a strong influence on the birth of psychedelic dance music and it’s journey up to the present.
Consistently progressive, System 7’s central producers - guitarist Steve Hillage and keyboardist Miquette Giraudy - have now forged a unique and bang up-to-date identity on the dance music genre map, in a space where techno, progressive house and psy-trance meet – with a healthy side-element of unique quality ambient chill – also collaborating with many other dance music luminaries, notably Derrick May, Carl Craig, Laurent Garnier and Richie Hawtin . Their most recent 12” single Planet 7 features major remixes from James Holden and Son Kite.
After their first album on Virgin in 1991, System 7 moved to Youth’s Butterfly label for the landmark 777 release in 1993, and a string of other albums and 12inches through the 90s.
Forming their own label A-Wave in 1999 they have now re-released their back catalogue and several successful new albums, most recently Encantado - released to high acclaim in 2004 - followed in 2005 by their new chill-out project Mirror System.
To come in 2006 is the official release of Live Transmissions – the powerful live CD. As one of the first techno groups to play live, System 7 have also had a strong influence on the development of the dance music festival scene, particularly in the UK.
