Describing a band and its sound is always a daunting and debatable task. With that in mind, maybe it would be best to give insight via someone close to us… that “someone” is now a lively one-year-old and has been listening to Sydonia since his conception. As to why this little ball of joy is being mentioned in this description is because of his reaction to hearing the first note of the new debut album “Given To Destroyers”. As soon as he heard it his face lit up with joy. That feeling is one of many that we experience when we, as passionate musicians, create the music we play. Essentially though, to define the music Sydonia plays is up to you… the listener.
Sydonia
Since forming in 1997, Sydonia have independently released four EPs, gained radio & TV play, toured extensively, and acquired a large and appreciative fanbase. Their next step is to launch the first single/video clip off their forthcoming debut album (due out September 2006) which was recorded with dw Norton & jENK @ Backbeach Studio in April.

“Sydonia are best defined by the sweeping changes between drop-C sonic assaults and lush guitar soundscapes…back-and-forth race between dark and light punctuates the release, a technique often employed with alienating, annoying consequences. With Sydonia, however, this incongruity presents itself as perplexing, then reveals itself as the point, as this is a band for whom generic boundaries are simply of no consequence.”
Daniel Z - BEAT Magazine reviewing “(Man)ipulate” ep
“Main vocalist Dana Roskvist’s emotional range flips effortlessly from rip your ****** throat out screams to suicidal anguish to gentle but perverted seduction. Anyone who has witnessed Sydonia live, with drummer flanked by bassist and guitarist beating the bejesus out of metal objects and floor toms, will attest to the bands powerful use of rhythms…What is certain is that Sydonia are impossible to pin down to one particular genre, sub-genre or classification.”
Kinko P Douglas - BEAT Magazine’s Brown Noise Unit
