No contemporary composer has embraced the concept of virtuosity more than Mauricio Kagel. His large and varied output ranges from the multi-media “Happening” Ludwig van and the hilarious “Ten Marches to Miss the Victory” to the epic, Baroque-inspired Sankt-Bach Passion. Zwischen 1980 und 1988 dirigierte Mauricio Kagel das SWR Vokalensemble Stuttgart in zahlreichen Konzerten im In- und Ausland und brachte dabei wichtige Werke zur Uraufführung wie zum Beispiel die Sankt-Bach-Passion (1985) oder das "Mitternachtsstük" (1981). Die besten dieser Aufnahmen wurden für diese CD ausgewählt, darunter die Studioproduktion des "Mitternachtsstüks", die mit dem "Prix Italia" ausgezeichnet wurde.
Einzigartige, bislang unveröffentlichte Dokumente der Zusammenarbeit des SWR Vokalensembles Stuttgart (damals: Südfunk-Chor Stuttgart) mit Mauricio Kagel als Dirigent eigener Werke aus den Jahren 1981 und 1984.
