Steve Peters is a composer/sound artist who, drawing inspiration from the experimental tradition and many of the world’s folk musics, often integrates improvisation and open forms into the work he creates for dance, theater, radio, public spaces, and concerts. He has performed as a soloist, on an array of acoustic and electronics instruments, and amplified natural objects and worked in many diverse collaborative contexts with such artists as Anna Homler, Steve Roden, David Dunn, Christopher Shultis, Francisco López, Steven M. Miller, and Tom Guralnick. Peters is also a founding member of Gamelan Encantada, a Javanese-American ensemble that performs both traditional and contemporary music. With choreographer/writer Lane Lucas, Peters has produced several acclaimed works, and he has also provided music and sound design for Nora Reynolds, Bill Evans, Kagami Butoh, Deborah Slater, and John Carrafa. CDs devoted to his work have been released by the Cold Blue, O.O. Discs, and Pianíssimo labels.
