1996 The group formed in Nottingham after having played as Friends Of.. since their first gig at the Old Angel in Nottingham in late 92. Comprising members of Friends Of.. (Olley, Hempton, Davis), Budd Bongo(Flower) and Friction(Paul Douglas). After recording several demo's and playing gigs, the band attract record company interest and play to a room full of A&R men in Leicester's Charlotte. The room empties even before the first 15 minute song is over.Undetered the band continue to write and record and bass player Paul Douglas joins. Local agent John Barry of CNL see's the band performing at The Narrowboat in Nottingham and begins managing the band getting them support slots with Rocket from The Crypt and Girls Against Boys. The band change their name to six.by seven. By accident a Geffen A&R man see's the band play at Sam Fey's and is so impressed he offers the band £2000 to record a demo for his boss in America. The band record European Me, Candlelight, Brilliantly Cute and For You at Moles studio Bath. Geffen boss passes on the band but Ed Horrocks of Beggars Banquet who has been watching the band for months offers to help the band release the demo as a 12" single on their own label MFS. Still unsigned the band play Pheonix Festival.
1997 European Me / Brilliantly Cute is released to critical acclaim and the NME describes it as "one of the greatest debut singles of all time" and sell out within 3 days. October- Six By Seven sign a five album deal with Beggars/MantraRecordings and record their debut album in Moles studio Bath.
1998 May see's the release of the band's debut album "The Things We Make" to great critical acclaim.May "Candlelight" goes to number 62 in the charts. June- The band play Glastonbury Festival. August -The band appear at Reading Festival. The band tour playing their own shows, with the Delgados, and support slots with Ash, The Manic Street Preachers, The Dandy Warhols and Placebo. 07-04-98 The band are asked to play a live session on John Peels show. John Peel is so impressed he asks the band to do another track and re arranges his show accordingly. 12-05-98 First Peel Session broadcast. 27-10-98 Six.By Seven play live on John Peels show from Newcastle sound City. November the band go to America and play Boston, New York and Los Angeles. December Six.By Seven appear on Later With Jools Holland. 13-07-99 Second Peel Session Broadcast
1999 The band return to the studio to record with Ric Peet at the Square Centre in Nottingham. Producer John Leckie joins the recording session for a week. The resultes of the sessions are released as an EP called "2 And a half Days In Love with You" in Summer 1999. The band tour the UK and return to the studio to record their 2nd album with Ric Peet and John Leckie
2000 The second studio album, "The Closer You Get" is released. NME give it 9/10. Six.By Seven headline the Astoria in London and tour Europe and the USA. 05-07-00 3rd Peel session is Broadcast.June just before a Glastonbury appearance, Sam Hempton leaves the band. The band play Benicassim in Spain, tour with Placebo and headline the Garage in London with Tony Foster from Spiritualized standing in for Hempton.
2001 May - Six.By Seven return to the studio to record their 3rd album at Rockfied as a 4 piece. 28-11-01 4th Peel session is broadcast.
2002 March 3rd album "The Way I Feel Today" is released. Tina Blower is recruited to play bass keyboards but leaves after a dozen festival appearances, the band continue as a 4 piece. After touring the UK and Europe the band are released by Beggars Banquet on 11th September 2003. 31-10-02 Live gig broadcast on John Peels radio one Live from Nottingham. November 2002 Bassist Paul Douglas quits the band. The band go into rehearsals and with the aid of a 16 track recorder capture their sound as a 3 piece. A time of rebuilding the band and recording new material with live shows begins.
2003 September Bochum(Light Up My Life) released on Fierce Panda Records. November 2003 - Six By Seven form their own label, Saturday Night Sunday Morning.
2004 June "Ready For You Now" released. Mixed by Dave Fridmann featuring 2 b-sides recorded with Death In Vegas' Tim Holmes. The single sells out. March Six by Seven finish the recording of their new album :04. August An internet only 'unofficial album' called "Left Luggage At The Peveril Hotel" is released.
2005 April - six by seven releasethe dark and glorious album 'artists cannibals poets thieves', influenced heavily by the suicide of long time friend and fan Olaf Bojarzin and also the death of John Peel. .. the album had a black cover. November - the band record their final and 5th Peel Session, asked by Peel just before his death, the band attend Peels funeral and record the session 3 days later at Maida Vale under a gloomy atmosphere
2006 Six.by seven are back in their Peveril studio recording with 2 new members, Ady on bass and Tony Doggen Foster from Julian Copes band and Spirtualized on the guitar. They are determined to start a new band with a new sound but everything just ends up sounding like six by seven again. June - Chris Olley says he no longer wants to proceed with the band and needs a break from six.by seven. The final recordings are released as anothe Peveril album: 'Club Sandwhich At The Peveril Hotel" Chris Davis wants to play live again but olley and flower don't really want to. Davis leaves the band...Six. bySeven reform as a 5 piece to play the Social in Nottingham with new members Ady Fletcher on Bass, Tony Doggen Foster on guitar and Mr. E on drums as well as Olley and Flower. The gig is a resounding success and plans are afoot to tour the UK in 2007!!
