Fusion/Smooth Jazz

Scott Brown has recorded with Charnett Moffet, Mark Leadford, Michael Brecker, Roy Ayres, Alex Bugnon, and Special Effects, among others.
He’s also worked extensively on the road playing in Alex Bugnon band for eight years and Patti Austin’s group for three years. .Jennifer Lopez, Luther Vandross and Roy Ayres are other artists he has worked for.

Scott first CD as a leader, (“The Scott Brown Project) was released in 2000 by Asha Records.

This album for Random Chance Records is a more ambitious effort featuring strong compositions in his own accessible, jazz/fusion style. There is also a line-up of great young instrumentalists with a dynamic vocalist, Paulette McWilliams, who sings on ‘How’d You Know That?” and “Can’t Live Without.” There also is a vocal contribution from Brown on his anti-war themed “No More Fighting,” a track that appears on the Random Chance Records compilation “Got The Impeach Bush/Cheney Blues.”

For funky grooves you can’t go wrong with “Trio Funk” and “Scotch Bonnett,” composed by bassist Norbert Marius. “Luna Madre,” comes in with latin beats and the laid back “Not Dead Yet” has a obvious reference to it’s roots.

As a teenager Brown met bassist Jaco Pastorius, member of the revolutionary jazz fusion group Weather Report, and an innovator on his instrument. Brown began jamming with Pastorius in 1984 and in 1985 began performing with him in clubs and concerts. Track number eight, “My Son From New York” (which begins with Pastorious speaking) is dedicated to him.
As Brown tells it: “The last time I saw Jaco was in Florida. I was 19 years old and it was the summer of 1987, only a few weeks before he was killed. I went to his hotel room and he was surprised to see me. He said, ‘Hey! It’s my son from New York!’ I didn’t realize that I’d never see him again.”

Jaco Pastorius lives on in the music of the many musicians that he influences. Scott Brown, while an accomplished musician and composer in his own right, is also channeling some vibrations from Jaco.
