With an international conducting career that has spanned more than five decades, Amsterdam-born Bernard Haitink is one of today’s most celebrated conductors. This live recording of Mahler’s Fourth Symphony is drawn from the performance on November 7th 2006 in Amsterdam which marked the 50th anniversary of his first concert with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, whose Music Director Bernard Haitink was for more than 25 years. He is now the Conductor Laureate of the Orchestra. Haitink recorded widely with the RCO, from classical to contemporary works, but it is probably the renowned cycles of Mahler, Bruckner and the French repertoire with which his relationship with the Orchestra is particularly associated.
