Aucourant is proud to be the publisher of two very important CDs of electronic music by well known American composer Roger Hannay. A senior member of the community of avant-garde composers, Hannay has been the recipient of numerous distinctions and awards. The second of these two discs, ARCHITECTURE IN SOUND VOLUME TWO, presents eight of his electronic works composed between 1966 and 1980. A very innovative and richly eclectic collection, the music found on this disc draws its inpiration from pop and jazz and also from the contemporary classical idioms. Each of these unique works helps to define and articulate the field of electronic music composition. The opening work, AMERICA SING!, combines musique concrete and electronic sound synthesis in a programmatic "anti-Vietnam-war" statement of considerable force and effectiveness. SPHINX, for trumpet and electronic tape is also part of this collection, presented in a definitive live-performance version. The complex and large-scale ARP-Dances explores the potentials of the analogue synthesizer in the studio context, as do the other pieces on the disc.
