In 1986 and 2 weeks into a YTS Computer course a young Rodney P (then known as Roddy Rock) and his friends Bionic and Sipho The Human Beat Box (RIP) were invited by Mick Jones of the legendary Clash to tour the UK as support for his new band Big Audio Dynamite. Joining the entourage was hip-hop heavy weight Schoolly D who would advise the young MCs on performing and open their eyes to a world of possibilities.
Later, Big Audio Dynamite along with film maker Don Lettts asked the newly named London Posse to tour with them again. It was on this second UK tour that Jazz Summers and Tim Parry of Big Life Records first saw the boys perform and offered them their first recording contract.
From those early days learning his trade on reggae sound systems in South London, Rodney went on to support artists like NWA and Soul II Soul in the early 90s and recorded underground Hip Hop classics like ‘Money Mad’, ‘Dedication’, and ‘How’s Life in London’ which have earned him the utmost respect from the global Hip Hop community and legendary status amongst Hip Hop fans.
Rodney Started Riddim Killa Records in collaboration with Braintax and shortly after setting up the label, and releasing the anthems ‘Murderer Style’, ‘Riddim Killa’ and ‘Big Tings We Inna’, Rodney, alongside DJ Skitz headlined the launch of the BBC’s flag ship digital station ‘1Xtra’ with their weekly show ‘Original Fever’.
2004 was the release of his anticipated LP ‘The Future’, the LP features guest vocals from MC D, Honey Williams and Olivia Chaney and label mates Mystro and Braintax. The production is handled by The Sea, Skitz, Joe Buhdha, Dobie and Rodney himself.
