The band consists of old pals Kaufman, Eric Jackson (guitar), Brian Kantor (drums), Kevin Fish (bass), and Mike Phillips (pedal steel), each one a masterful and extremely sensitive musician, and all of whom have played together in various combinations for the better part of the past decade. Half the record was recorded live at the Serious Business studio in Manhattan, with Bryan Devendorf (The National) and Rob Burger (Leonard Cohen) augmenting the core quintet on percussion and piano respectively. Josh pieced the rest together at comfy home sessions where he enlisted friends like violist Karen Waltuch (Wilco, Jim O'Rourke), cornetist Geoff Mann (Eternal Buzz Brass Band) and his own special someone Annie Nero (El May, Ladystein).
