Proteus (AKA Josh Steinmetz) began experimenting with sound early in life. When his mother left him alone as an infant, lulling him to sleep with a metronome, she could have never imagined what brain twisting rhythmic madness he would eventually produce. So wherever you are, "Thanks Mom". While banging on pots with spoons soon followed, it wasn't long before little Proteus, who is actually named after Charles "Proteus" Steinmetz, his great great uncle, was given his first guitar.
After playing in bands for more than 10 years Proteus was born, "as an outlet for all the music that couldn't be done in a traditional band setting". Things like a chorus of 6 bass guitars and a transistor radio. Or a seven minute epic of organized mechanical body rockin' chaos. Like an orchestra of vibrating energy, moving gears, and speaker blowing thuds that sounds more like a alien marching band than a group of kids bashing away on their Stratocasters.
And still, Proteus is electronic music for people who think they hate electronic music. Lush arrangements, beautiful soundscapes, and surprisingly catchy melodies, make you feel like you are somewhere near Jupiter at some sort of galactic dance party. Like music from 30 years in the future when the people of Earth are eventually bored with the same stuff their great great grandparents invented.. They start to sound like this.
Nasty, loud, intricate, angry, strong, delicate.. And just plain "Booty shaking!" With beats that would make Timbaland jealous and hooks that sound like they were constructed from spare space ship parts, this music is a real treat for both the ears and the imagination.
Spastic fun for anyone with ADD or a thirst for funky white knuckle electro-love from a badass little white kid from the San Fernando Valley.
