Version 1 -
Simon, Vic & Paul: broke ass and with broken gear trying to make angry dance music. We called it council house. No-one else noticed the tongues stuck firmly in our cheeks.
Version 2 -
Bye bye Paul (see Franz Ferdinand). Hello Robert (see Life Without Buildings) and Will. Hello also huge credit card debt and a year or so spent figuring out how the fuck to get less angry and tied to a computer. We spent this time listening to lots of Fela Kuti & disco and tried learning how to play our instruments properly
Version 3 -
Will leaves to spend time writing. Colin (see Eska) joins and kicks everything up a notch. We listen to even more Fela, a little Eno. Get into the idea of editing our lengthy jams down into concise pop songs. Less is quite often more we discover.
Version 4 -
We lose robert to the reality of life in the modern world & running a graphic design company. Simon has the ridiculous idea of asking his old friend Chris Leo (see The Lapse, The Van Pelt, etc) to join the band. This seems perfect in every way other than the fact that he lives in Brooklyn, which is really pushing the concept of suburban Glasgow a little too far. Still, in life as in music, the most successful ideas are often the most ridiculous ones. So in June 2005 Chris descends upon Glasgow. 4 days solid rehearsal later we head off on a 14 date tour.To say it works well would be an understatement. Balancing the older New Order influenced electronics, the tight Fela inspired disco polyrythms and Chris's dandy psych licks with a more honed melodic sensibility. in a word: awesome.
Now we've holed ourselves up in the studio planning world domination, bouncing tracks back and forth across a transatlantic internet link up, getting together as often as our kindly credit card companies allow us to purchase those NYC-GLA round trips and generally stirring up some shit, appreciating the finer things in life and getting to work on our debut full length.
We've got a collection of most everything we recorded before Paul went on to bigger and better things released through tsk! tsk! records and a 7" will be released at the beginning of september '05 through Pauls NEW! imprint. order it from your local shop.
