About four years ago, in the nomanslands between the Belgian towns of Eeklo and Oost-Eeklo Penguins Know Why was founded. The band spent its first months moving from an attic to a garden house, from that garden house to another garden house and from a garden house to a pigsty, losing a singer and transforming a bass player to a guitarist and vise versa. After several concerts all over Belgium PKW recorded their first EP, which was released in November 2007.
Their music is a reflection on the hard life in a post-urben landscape. In order to do this, the band injected raw and uncut lyrics into strong and repetitive noise-scapes, using a dadaist aproach. They call themselves Post-punk Shaman and try to escape the drag of every day life with tribal rituals.
Being influenced by bands like Interpol and Sonic Youth, PKW has created a straightforward yet complex sound. Later on they turned towards the ideas of No Wave, creating music that is uncompromised by a lack of technical skill.
influences: the fall - sonic youth - hip hop - liars - NY no wave - krautrock (can / neu!) - autechre - shoegazers - postpunks - krauts
