I never sleep anymore! Ever since I started writing songs I've become the victim of snorus-interruptus. Or eyesopenwiderus. I go to sleep just fine every night but at 2 o'clock in the morning I'm jolted awake by some little alien critter flapping around inside my head sayin, "Write me doooowwwn! Write me doooowwwwn!" in this annoying nasal drone.

"Go away, " I always reply, sleepily. "I will write you down. In the morning, right after breakfast."

"No, noooww!" it drones on. "You'll have forgotten all about me by moooorrrning!"

So, do I swap this confounded botheration away like a sensible person would and go back to sleep? Oh, no. Not me. I roll out of my warm bed and stumble downstairs to find the nearest writing utensil.

"Why don't you keep a pencil next to the bed?" Oliver asks. "Go lie down," I explain. As I was saying, I start scribbling down ideas to exorcise this little demon, and out comes stuff like The Tortoise & The Hare, Pickle In My Pocket, Beast, and even Bug Hunt --- all products of insomnia.

So, go ahead right now, put the CD in the player and turn it up loud, okay? As for me (yawn) it's 5 o'clock in the morning and I'm finally headed back to bed.
