This is Otis Spann’s first album of his own and Robert Lockwood Jr’s first recording in many years.

Otis Spann was born in Jackson, Mississippi, March 21 1930. his mother played blues guitar and his father was a blues pianist. Otis picked up piano by ear when he was seven, and had no instruction since. All formidable blues pianists have to be equally limber with both hands, but Otis is a particularly forceful two handed player. Robert Lockwood Jr who plays guitar and sings in this first Candid album of Otis Spann blues is the step son of one of the most extraordinary blues singers who ever recorded, the late Robert Johnson.
