The Sacred Ones II: The second project by Mystic Rhythms is again dedicated to Gesso Thomas, a Mohawk painter, philosopher and musician who befriended Gregor Theelen, the artist and creative force behind this group. His influence, as well as the chants of many peoples, are heard in this spirited, inspired group of songs that speak to the love of the land and the Almighty that comes from the customs and cultures that thrived long before modern times. The melding in this music is the result of a brave new Euro-American tongue, filled with ancient chants, fluid guitars, contemporary melodies, driving rhythms and extensive versatility and musical interplay. Theelen's outstanding production is the foundation for distant voices, both heard and imagined, which underscore the music and give a grounding sense of authenticity to these gentle and reverent interpretations of a musical culture rich beyond words.
