He is considered one of the most prominent composers of his generation. Having more than 130 songs recorded by artists such as Maria Bethânia, Gilberto Gil, Leny Andrade, Leila Pinheiro, among others.

Born in Rio, he studied guitar with Helio Delmiro. His first album was recorded in 1988 when he started composing with Aldir Blanc, who became his main lyricist. Today he also has Martinho da Vila and Paulo Cesar Pinheiro, among others, writing words for his songs. His second album brings the hit "Saudade da Guanabara" which is considered an anthem of Rio de Janeiro. In "Mandingueiro", his third album, he found in samba a definitive character for his work.
