The Mendoza Line was formed during the middle 90's in Athens, GA and relocated to Brooklyn, NY in 1999. Their last release Lost in Revelry in 2002, garnered widespread critical acclaim in publications like Spin, Salon and the Village Voice and was heralded amongst the best of the year by Magnet and Uncut magazines, amongst many others.
About The Members:
Peter Hoffman, Paul Deppler, and Timothy Bracy were born 30 years ago around the shady suburb McLean, VA. There they competed on the hard courts at Cooper Middle School where Peter dominated the proceedings owing to vast advantages in leverage and racquet speed. Relocating to Athens, Georgia sometime in their early 20's, they founded the Mendoza Line. Taking in other members and influences they were unsettled to see the band inadvertently improve and then gradually become outstanding. A move to Brooklyn in 1999 did nothing to arrest this progress and now the Mendoza Line takes up huge swaths of their time.
The daughter of a mill owner from Albany, Georgia, twenty seven year old Shannon Mary McArdle resists her band mate's characterization of her as a 'simple farm girl'. What is inarguable are her outstanding songwriting and emergence as one the best and most distinctive vocalists of her generation. While she has made it known she would likely accept an engagement overture from Timothy in the near future, she likes to add sassily: I'll be married with a child in five years - with or without him!
A virtual non-pareil on the pedal steel and electric guitars, John Troutman was born 30 years ago in Dothan, Alabama and began almost immediately cultivating an interest in maps. Later he was president of his fraternity at Emory University in Atlanta and around that a troubled drifter introduced time to other members of the Mendoza Line known only as 'Mike T'. He now resides in Austin, Texas in a dangerous co-dependency with his charming card shark housemate Carlos.
Little is known about drummer Sean Fogarty. He is thought to have emerged from the northern United States around the time first Oakland A's dynasty, but extensive efforts to secure any birth, tax or other forms of official documentation have thus far proven fruitless. Known to be quick to temper, he is both feared and respected by others in his field, and prefers to be referred to by his chosen (though not widely understood) nickname 'the ball striker.'
