A world traveler and a lifelong poet, Mark Dougherty has crafted his brand of acoustic driven folk music into a style that is all of his own — through countless recordings and years spent with his guitar and pen and heart.
Says Mark: "It is always my goal to somehow reflect the journey we are all on in life through my music. Sometimes I think we forget to see the beauty in it all, but when we do, there is real joy. I try and reflect those feelings and that sense of joy in every song I write."
As he always says, his music is as important as living and breathing to him. He counts Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young to Van Morrison to new recording artists like Radiohead, Iron and Wine, Sufjan Stevens, Wilco and Grant Lee Phillips as his primary influences.
While these artists find their way into his style, Dougherty performs with a style and sensitivity all his own. "The lyrics are the framework to any song and they are what grab the listener, especially when those lyrics come from the heart." This is not only true, but it has been the hallmark of Dougherty's recording career. Writing music that comes from the heart, it is the vision that he plans to take into his song-writing for years to come.
