Life, thus far, for Linda Draper has been a musical exploration that began in the church choir and then venturing into studying music at SUNY Purchase Music Conservatory in New York. From there she took to writing and performing at various avenues. In 2001 she recorded her debut LP “Ricochet” with famed NYC icon Kramer, who had already discovered/produced seminal acts Galaxie 500, Urge Overkill, and Low, among others. The working relationship would last for the next three albums: 2002’s “Snow White Trash Girl,” 2003’s “Patchwork,” and 2005’s worldwide critically acclaimed “One Two Three Four” (released on Planting Seeds in the USA and Mushroom Pillow in Europe and Japan).
Her impressive catalogue also features appearances on great tributes to the very artists that continue to inspire her – Phil Ochs, Harry Nilsson (both released via Wood Records) and most notably on Planting Seeds’ ”Easy To Be Free: The Songs of Rick Nelson” (released in June of 2006, featuring tracks by Marshall Crenshaw, Liz Durrett, Dolorean, Jeffrey Foskett of The Beach Boys/Brian Wilson, plus more). She also appeared on 2004’s stellar collection “Sunsets & Silhouettes” featuring great performances from Freeheat (Jim Reid of The Jesus & Mary Chain), Camera Obscura (Merge Records), Mark Gardener (ex Ride) , and others. Her track “Super Zero” was featured on Darla Records ever popular “Little Darla Has A Treat For You” series. Her music was also heard on influential radio stations/shows WFMU, NPR’s All Songs Considered, and WBAI’s Radio Unnameable hosted by the legendary Bob Fass (who has also supported legends Bob Dylan and Phil Ochs among others). Her star continues to shine with each new release.
In a brief span she has toured Europe and has played countless US performances, including a support slot for Verve Forecast recording artist Teddy Thompson (son of Richard and Linda Thompson). She has also recently played alongside folk/pop legend Suzanne Vega, Regina Spektor (Sire Records), Kimya Dawson (K Records), Adam Green (Rough Trade Records) Jeffrey Lewis (Rough Trade Records), and also appeared at the Athens Popfest in Athens, GA. More live performances are on the horizon, until then enjoy and treasure Linda Draper’s latest offering, fittingly titled “Keepsake.”
