They were not always League510. In the beginning, they were The Knuckleheadz; middle school- aged Mc’s, preteen pros of the punch line. The trio exhibited talents that seemed to come naturally in the early stages of their union. Oblivious to any resources and lacking even a basic understanding of the music industry the only outlet for the group’s gift was the Montera Middle School talent show. They rehearsed religiously. They came up with the outfits they would wear. They made props and put together an intro. They orchestrated their own steps and synchronized movements. They even went as far as to pass out bandanas to the entire crowd with instructions to wave them in the air as they performed. They made sure to be a cut above the rest. The night of the show was nerve- wracking. This was to be their first performance ever. The butterflies built as each act passed until they heard “next, coming to the stage we have The Knuckleheads!” The audience was uproarious. The Knucks, as they called themselves, proceeded to tear it down. The crowd went bananas. All they could see from the stage were students, parents and faculty frantically waving the “soldier rags” that they had passed out. From then on, they knew their dream could become a reality.
Now, all at age 21, TK, Mont, and Mr. Knowitall as League510 (510 is the area code from which threesome hails) are primed and focused. Handling the majority of their own production, recording, booking, and graphic design, they have evolved from a rap group into a musical enterprise. The crew is currently recording their first full-length album entitled To the Beat. The project promises to be an innovative reflection of the views held by three standout guys from Oakland, CA, a city with a culture all its own. Though this is their first album as a group, TK and Mr. Knowitall featured on Where I’m At and The Future, which are albums recorded by B.U.M.P Records. League510 as a whole is featured on Fam Bam Vol. 1 and Fam Bam Vol. 2 which are compilations recorded by a larger network of artists called Famillite. League510 also helped co-found Famillite ENT.
After years of performing and recording together, honing their skills and building up an indubitable group chemistry, League510 is ready to bring their visions into fruition. They are the voice of a generation. ‘80s born and millennium bred. Homeboys since ‘98, they represent a decade of growth and development, a decade of trial and error, and a decade of grooming experience. So, if you are asking your self, “is League510 ready to advance to the commercial level?” Not only are they ready, they are overdue.
