Klaus Ignatzek Quintet- All Systems Go!

Pianist leader Klaus Ignatzek has set out his stall in this recital with a brace of sellar trumpeters, twice featured before in Candid sets entitled ‘The Answers!’ (CCD 79534) and ‘Silent Horns’ (CCD 79729). Both highlight the scorching trumpets of those Latin maestros Claudio Roditi and Gustav Bergalli. In addition, Gustavo was featured on the Ignatzek session which yielded the outstanding ‘Return Voyage’ (CCD 79716).

In this set Claudio resumes his partnership with Gustavo, and the band has a new drummer aboard in New Yorker Chip White. Claudio, Gustavo, Klaus and every present bassist Jean-Louis Bassinfosse have been playing together for nine years so enjoy a rapport born in many weeks on the road and shared experiences. The arrival of a drummer with a different approach naturally brought on some apprehension. They need not have worried for Chip fitted in beautifully.

The members of this band are all dedicated swingers in the modern/mainstream groove and play with verve and vibrancy in that established tradition. Here is music which ears appreciative of harmony, melody, inventive improvisation allied to a pulse for toe-tappers, will discern instantly.
