KILO-C are a post-rave, electro outfit driven by machinegun guitar and laced with apocalyptic poetry.
Chris is the charismatic singer and lyricist for Kilo-C who lives in a world suffocated by reality. He was born and raised in a small suburb, directly opposite a factory that made radioactive parts for spy satellites. His first inspiration for becoming a musician came from the unlikely source of a near by quarry that was continuously setting off large demolition explosives that used to shake his bedroom window. At first Chris found this disturbing, but after many nights falling asleep to the sound of the blasts Chris began to dream of them, and in his head they became like music. This started the wheel in motion and he was determined to form a band that incorporated his visions.
Jay Man Panics was born the son of a sailor, and during his childhood frequently moved from one place to another. After living in Saudi Arabia during the first Gulf war he was profoundly affected by the conflict, and began to contemplate the different cultures and societies he had lived amongst. He started thinking about how the west portrays itself and how it is portrayed by others as well as the ultimate nature of things in the world. Sensing that he needed a vehicle to carry his ideas, Jay became interested in music production and after experimenting with many of his influences, developed a style that would eventually be adopted by Kilo-C.
The enigmatic Anthony John Murphy seemed to have been raised on a diet of Jack Daniels and cigarettes and upon closer inspection this is not far from the truth. He is a character of extremes. One minute, a passive, quiet, introvert sitting sullen in the corner and the next he is up shouting and screaming and trying to attack anything within a ten metre radius. Most of A J’s life has been spent in an alcohol-induced coma but his guitar is his saviour and his bark is worse than his bite.
Kilo-C’s first commercial release is the aptly named ‘Price Of Life’ EP released through WTFD records. The EP comprises of ‘16th Beggar’, ‘Price of Life’ and ‘What Have I Become’. The three tracks were developed around the idea of a society enveloped in consumerism and a celebrity life style. Modern society seems obsessed on finding happiness through materialistic pursuits resulting in unrealistic expectations of itself and it is this that inspired the concept for the EP.
The first track ‘16th Beggar’ is a cultural confession, an admittance of guilt to the crime of self indulgence, greed and a media fuelled obsession with a trivial and often meaningless existence.
Next is the result of this, the melancholic ‘Price Of Life’, a tale of regret, realisation and the fact that ultimately we are all the result of the decisions we make throughout life.
The final piece of this trilogy is ‘What Have I Become’. A study of the relationship between an individuals increased conformity to society and the resultant reduction of their imagination.
