Let’s cut to the chase…
Jubilee is a rock n’ roll band from Los Angeles, California. “Rebel Hiss” is their first release, and also the first single from their forthcoming debut album.
The initial components of this new group being Aaron North on vocals and guitar (Nine Inch Nails, The Icarus Line, Buddyhead dickhead) and Michael Shuman on bass and vocals (Queens of the Stone Age, Wires On Fire, KXLU Program Director dickhead), the band started as a vision of an outlet for these lads to explore other musical avenues than they’d ventured into before. Say… What would happen if you mixed The Replacements with The Stone Roses? Neil Young with Blur? Jane’s Addiction with Bob Dylan? Creedence Clearwater Revival with The Verve? Maybe it had even already all been done before. But who cares? Cos if it had, then it sure hadn’t been done enough. The band’s sound was fully realized with the addition of Evan Weiss on guitar and backing vocals (Yet another Wires On Fire dickhead).
Now, here’s where you either just get really bored, and stop reading, cos any more info is pretty much inconsequential, and could possibly put you to sleep. The music is all that really matters anyway. But, if yer interested in the even jucier tid-bits, then read on my friend…
Without any sort of scheme to light the world on fire, the band started “jamming” and recording music at their own studio, “Shabbey Road”. The approach was so careless, the group hadn’t even bothered to work out such minor details as… a drummer… or even a band name for that matter. But with such a wide assortment of percussively inclined friends always swinging by the studio, the thought of only recording their songs with just one of them seemed inhibiting.
By the time the album was more than halfway done, folks such as Carla Azar (Autolux), Josh Freese (Devo, A Perfect Circle, Nine Inch Nails, eh… everybody), Kevin Haskins (Bauhaus, Love & Rockets, Tones On Tail), and Josh Homme (Queens Of The Stone Age, Eagles Of Death Metal) had already laid down some heavy skin-pounding… And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Other collaborators will reveal themselves upon the album’s release… Hey, spoilers are just no fun. The group then concluded that because of the positive and inspiring environment centering around this new endeavor celebrating life, that no other name would be appropriate for them than Jubilee. And the first batch of results…
Jubilee’s first 7-inch / cd single, “Rebel Hiss” is already widely available throughout the UK. This digital offering of the tunes is now available world-wide. Drumming duties on “Rebel Hiss” were handled by Mr. Josh Freese, and on the 7-inch B-side tune, “Fuzz Are Down” by Sir Loren Humphrey (The Willowz). The band has freshly returned from a very well received tour of the aforementioned British isle, and with another single on the way before summer reaches, the band will tour again soon somewhere else you probably won’t be able to see them at.
And hey… Don’t let the extensive cast of drumstick twiddlers on these recordings throw you off the trail here. This is NOT some sort of one-off experiment, or even worse, “side project”. This is the real deal champ, and “Rebel Hiss” is just a tiny taste of what’s ahead.
