DE-STRESS provides an oasis of calm, where can take a brief vacation from the world of worries and dissolve into a universe of peace and serenity.
Listening to certain sound is an extremely useful way for helping reduce stress, enhancing states of calm and relaxation. One of the reasons for this is that our nervous system is easily affected by external sounds. Our heart rate, respiration and brain waves are all influenced by the sounds we hear. Sounds, such as those found on DE-STRESS, help induce states of harmony and tranquility within you. This is because DE-STRESS was created specifically with the purpose of reducing stress in the listener.
Combining the art and science of Sound Healing, DE-STRESS produces a profound effect in those who listen to it. This recording uses gentle ambient music that is pulsed very slowly—helping slow your heart rate and breathing patterns. It also uses specific psycho-acoustic tones and frequencies that will help entrain your brain waves and synchronize your nervous system to the calm and relaxing sounds on it.
As soon as you begin to listen to this music, your heart rate, brain waves and respiration will all begin to slow down. Without words or coherent melodies that might distract and occupy your conscious mind, the multi-layered ambient sounds of DE-STRESS allows you to resonate to the soothing energy on the recording and immediately enter deep states of relaxation. The Tibetan bowls that accompany the music also provide extraordinary sounds that are excellent for stress reduction. The sounds of the gentle stream you’ll be gently hearing are encoded with frequencies that will help slow down your brainwaves into the theta/delta range—the optimum range of deep relaxation.
In addition, DE-STRESS includes some of the most powerful relaxation and life affirmation that are subliminally encoded into the sounds of this recording. These subliminal affirmations are sounds that cannot be consciously heard and yet do positively effect our psyche on an unconscious level. Subliminal affirmations seem to provide beneficial results for many listeners. The affirmation on “DE-STRESS”, while not audible, add to the positive energy inherent in this recording.

In my book HEALING SOUNDS, I created this most important formula with regard to the power of sound which I now share it with you. The formula is this: “FREQUENCY + INTENT = HEALING”. “FREQUENCY” is the actual sound that is made. “INTENTION” may be understood as the energy behind the sound—the consciousness that rides upon the sound. “HEALING” is the desired outcome of the sound. Thus, the sounds you hear combine with the intention of the person who is making the sound and together they create the overall effect of the sound.
On “DE-STRESS”, all of the beautiful music on this recorded, whether performed by me or any of the other extraordinary sound healers, was created with the intention of manifesting the greatest possible sonic tool for relaxation and healing. In addition to the encoded subliminal affirmations on this recording are another way of encoding the sound with intention.
DE-STRESS is great to use when you want to take some time out to put yourself back into balance and harmony. It is also wonderful for those to use in order to enhance relaxation before sleep. It can even be used for background music during work, if you find that you are getting stressed out. For most effective use, headphones are recommended, but they are not necessary to experience the calming effect of this recording.

The Effects of Stress
Stress is not good for us. That is a fact! The relationship between the body and the mind is well documented, as is the relationship between stress and the imbalances it can create. Stress is now being pinpointed as the #1 cause of most physical difficulties, including heart attacks, strokes and cancer. Stress also contributes to imbalances in our mental, emotional or spiritual selves.
Among other things, stress alters our blood chemistry, triggering fight or flight hormones such as adrenaline as well as cortisol. When our internal organs show signs of overwork and stress, they begin to function poorly. Our immune system suffers because of this. We become tired and exhausted. Often, we become ill. Stress can contribute to accelerating aging, causing us to indeed grow old before our time. These are just some of the consequences of stress—there are many more.
When we are stressed, we don’t perform well. Our productivity suffers. Our business suffers. Our relationships suffer. Our lives suffer. When we are stressed, we simply do not respond well—we are “stressed out”—hyper tense and hyperactive. When we are in this state, we are not relaxed. Frequently we are not kind and loving. If most of the world’s spiritual traditions tell us to be in a state of “Now”, feeling peace and harmony with the universe, stress provides the antithesis of this. Rarely do we enjoy ourselves when we are stressed out. We often miss the truly important and joyous experiences in our lives due to stress.
The sad fact is that for most of us living in today’s modern and hectic world cannot escape stress. Therefore, any sort of technology or tool that can help reduce and relieve stress in ourselves is essential and vital. DE-STRESS is such a tool.
How to Use DE-STRESS
DE-STRESS is designed to help calm and relax you. However, music will only do that to its fullest potential when you work with it. Therefore, it is highly recommended that to utilize DE-STRESS effectively, you disengage from any stressful activity and allow yourself the time to take a “mini sonic vacation” away from whatever has been adversely effecting you.
To begin, find a comfortable place where you can listen to this CD without being disturbed. Make a commitment to yourself that during this time that you will not answer the phone or do any other activity that could possibly distract you from experiencing this sonic vacation. Sit in a comfortable chair or lie on a couch—in whatever position is easiest and allows you the most relaxation. If you have a time constraint and need to be somewhere, it is advisable to have a small alarm clock present in the event that the gentle sounds on this recording lull you into the world of sleep.
Press play on your CD player and you will immediately begin to relax and feel the tension melt away. As the soothing sounds of DE-STRESS begin to surround you, close your eyes and begin to slowly breathe in and breathe out. Make these breaths as long and as deep as possible. Breathe in a comfortable fashion. There are many patterns of breathing that are suggested by stress reduction researchers. Some feel that breathing in to the count of 4, then holding your breath to the count of eight and then breathing out to the count of 4 is most effective. Others suggest different patterns. Still others feel that what works best is to simply breathe in a manner that is comfortable for you.
Here is a breathing exercise that is easy to do and will help you relax and feel refreshed. Close your eyes and take a deep breath in while slowly counting to four. Hold the breath for a count of two and then gently exhale to the count of four. Continue this cycle of breathing. This breathing technique requires you to slow down and breathe deeply, both of which can help reduce tension. This technique also helps quiet the mind, letting go of distracting thoughts as you focus on counting and breathing. As you practice this breathing technique, experiment with different numbers - try increasing the length of each breath and see how you feel.
Use whatever works best for you. Regular, slowed breathing helps alert your brain to the fact that you are in a safe place, away from problems or situations that have been disturbing you. It also slows down your heart rate. Slowing your breath is an easy and powerful way of managing stress and avoiding burnout.
DE-STRESS uses very slow pulses and rhythms that will naturally assist slow breathing. Nevertheless, your cooperation in co-creating a relaxing effect will always amplify the power of this recording. Let the sounds of DE-STRESS wash over you like a sonic shower of purifying and soothing energy. If you would like to make your experience with DE-STRESS even more effective, it has been found that being in a state of appreciation while you breathe in a deep manner really helps. This state of appreciation also allows you to take a gentle mini vacation.
As you breathe in and out, think of something that you feel appreciation for—perhaps it’s a person—a friend or a spouse or an offspring—or maybe it’s a beautiful scene such as a sunset or beach. Whatever you are thinking about, visualize that person or setting so that this image in your mind is created as vividly as possible, using as many senses as you can. Feel this appreciation throughout your body and particularly in your heart. As you’re listening to DE-STRESS and feeling appreciation while breathing, you will be creating a coherent waveform between your heart and your brain, The power of this recording to create serenity and calmness within you will be strengthen greatly by this coherent waveform. Using DE-STRESS in this manner can be a most effective tool for enhancing and nurturing your mind, body and spirit.
These are just some suggestions that may help enhance the effects of DE-STRESS. Of course, it is not necessary to do anything at all when listening to DE-STRESS. By their very nature, the sounds on this recording will enhance calmness and tranquility within you. On a personal note, I use this recording frequently for relaxation. It truly works for me and I wish you the same.

Andi Goldman, M.A., L.P.C., is the Director of the Healing Sounds® Seminars and Executive Director of the Sound Healers Association. She is a licensed psychotherapist, specializing in holistic counseling and sound therapy. She holds an M.A. in counseling psychology and is the developer of Tele-Counsel, the nation’s first telephone counseling service specifically offering homebound clients structured counseling. She is a musician, teacher, sound healer, and the wife and partner of Jonathan Goldman, with whom she has co-authored the award winning book TANTRA OF SOUND.
