Liner notes on CHAKRADANCE
Welcome to the world of CHAKRADANCE, where ancient sounds meet futuristic sonics to create a new form of aural entertainment and excitement.
This is dance music with a purpose. CHAKRADANCE is designed to resonate and balance the energy centers of the body known as the “chakras”. It has long been a dream of mine to create spiritually uplifting dance music. Now this music, CHAKRADANCE, created in collaboration with Chris Allen, has become a reality. We are pleased to have you take part in this sonic experience.
For more than 20 years, I have studied, researched and experimented with different tones, chants and frequencies that were said to affect these chakras. A number of my meditation recordings specifically utilize many of these sounds. CHAKRADANCE represents a new level of this work—taking the concept of chakra resonance onto the dance floor, where hopefully, you’ll be able to experience both a joyful and spiritually uplifting resonance from this recording.
The word “chakra” is Sanskrit—the ancient language of India and it means, “wheel”. Chakras are sensed and seen by those with the ability, as spinning wheels of energy. There are seven main chakras and they are located along the center of the body. Chakras seem to be vortices of vibration—places where the energy from other planes of existence becomes denser and it filters into that which becomes the physical body.
Chakras are seen as light. They are also heard as sound. They are not restricted to the Eastern traditions though the Hindu and Tibetan traditions have the most information about them. Mystics, sensitives, and occultists from throughout the planet have described not only the subtle bodies, but also the chakras.
As stated, the seven main chakras are located centrally along the front and back of the body. They are focal points of manifestation for energy, which makes up the subtle body. Their locations (as well as their Sanskrit name and its attribute) are:
1. The base chakra (in Sanskrit “Muladhara”), located at the perineum area near the pelvic floor. It is related to the energy of grounding and survival.
2. The sacral chakra (in Sanskrit “Svadhishthana”) is located about three inches below the navel. This chakra is associated with the sexual organs. It is related with the energy of creativity and reproduction.
3. The navel chakra (in Sanskrit “Manipura”) is located around the navel above to the solar plexus. This chakra is associated with the digestive organs. Power, self-mastery and self-esteem are attributes of this chakra.
4. The heart chakra (in Sanskrit “Anahata”) is located in the center of the chest. It is associated with the heart and respiration and is the chakra of love and compassion.
5. The throat (in Sanskrit “Vishuddi”) is located at the throat. It is associated with speech and hearing. It is the chakra of communication.
6. The brow chakra (in Sanskrit “Ajna”) is located between the eyes. Popularly known as the “3rd Eye”, this chakra is associated with the brain. It is primarily related with the attributes of imagination and psychic abilities.
7. The crown chakra (in Sanskrit “Sahasrara”) is located at the top of the head. It is said to control every aspect of the body and mind and is associated with full enlightenment and union with God.
This is a very special recording for several reasons. It includes many of the frequencies, harmonics, vowels and other sounds that I have utilized on my other chakra balancing recordings. In addition, there are also certain sacred and psycho acoustic effects sounds as well on “Chakra Dance which are completely new—and have never before manifested. They were impossible to create until the advent of the technology that made computer recording possible. Among these new sounds is the transmuting or changing of mantras into frequencies.
Mantras are sacred chants—words of power. And CHAKRADANCE is full of them. At times, on parts of CHAKRADANCE you may hear tones or frequencies that sound like notes from a synthesizer or a rhythmic drums beat. In reality, they are digitally altered and enhanced chants of a Tibetan Monk—Lama Tashi, Tibetan Chant Master. You will also hear the authentic “Deep Voice” chanting of Lama Tashi as well as many other sacred overtone and chant masters on CHAKRADANCE. But the sound of mantras turned into frequencies is something that has never before been heard. Though you may not even be aware of them, they will be pervading and effecting your consciousness. The same is true about many of the other psycho-acoustic and sacred sounds and frequencies such as Pythagorean tuning forks, which create a deep and powerful balancing effect upon the nervous system as well as the sacred vowel sounds and Bija mantras which balance and align the chakras. While you may not be aware of these sounds, they are present and powerfully affecting you on CHAKRADANCE.
The Pythagorean Tuning Forks used for each chakra were cut to the Pythagorean interval of the fifth in a specific keynote. Pythagoras, the ancient Greek philosopher and musician, believed that the ratio of 2:3 (two to three) was extremely therapeutic and transformative. The tuning forks use this relationship of the Pythagorean Fifth in specific keynotes for the different centers to represent another way of using sound to resonate the body, brain and etheric field.
The Sacred Vowel are considered sacred in many different traditions and Mystery Schools throughout the planet, including ancient Egyptians, Hebrew, Islamic, Tibetan, Japanese and Native American. For more information about this, please see the chapter on “Vowels As Mantras” in my book HEALING SOUNDS.
Bija Mantras are the Sanskrit letters from the Vedic traditions, which by themselves balance and align the chakras. There are silent Bijas and spoken Bijas. These are the spoken Bijas that are chanted aloud in order to resonate the chakras.
Each chakra in the Vedic tradition is also associated with a particular element. These sounds have been included when applicable to create a sonic environment for CHAKRADANCE. Also included in this sonic environment are sounds from the Shabd Yoga, the science of the Audible Sound Current. These sounds are considered to be Divine Emanations of the Creator. Sometimes the Vedic sounds were the same as the Shabd sounds.
Each of the chakras features Tibetan mantras courtesy of Lama Tashi for this recording. This system of mantras for the chakras is also new. After careful meditation, the mantra for a specific deity or energy was chosen for each chakra. For example, for the heart chakra, “Om Mani Padme Hum”, the mantra of Avalokitesvara, the Buddha of Divine Compassion, was chosen. As stated before, many of these mantras have been altered in such a way that they may be nearly subliminal. Yet these are sacred sounds that will affect you. For those interested in the complete authentic mantras as performed by Tibetan Chant Master, Lama Tashi, we refer you to the Spirit Music recording of “Tibetan Master Chants”.
Each chakra has a fundamental frequency (or keynote) that was determined and utilized. We choose a diatonic major scale, starting on the note C. This is one of the most popular systems utilized to resonate the chakras. Of particular note is that the fundamental frequencies used for this system are harmonically related--that is the notes are the natural result of the geometric vibrations of a given string (brought within a single octave). The tuning is different than that of a keyboard. The notes created are based upon the harmonics created from the fundamental notes of the note C that vibrates at 256 cycles per second (and then having the harmonics transposed down so that the fit within the octave of that C note). 256 Hz. is a harmonic of 1 cycle a second. Many believe this keynote to be in natural resonance with many of the frequencies of the Earth itself. Some belief it is a harmonic of the actual frequency of the Earth.
In my books HEALING SOUNDS and SHIFTING FREQUENCIES, I discuss the importance of intent in the sound healing experience. A formula I present is: “Frequency + Intent = Healing”. “Intent” is the energy behind the sound (the “Frequency”) and may be a real key as to the effects of sound--particularly vocally created sound. Awareness of intent will help enhance the sound healing experience and frequency shifting effect. The intention we place upon the sound truly influences our experience with the sound.
During the recording of these various sounds on CHAKRADANCE, Chris and I invoked the energies of many divine entities of music and medicine so that those listening and dancing to this recording could experience profound transformation. While making CHAKRADANCE, we focused our intention on the specific chakras, visualizing the chakras resonating with the sound and feeling the energy vibrating in the chakra areas. We focused these intentions, visualizations and feelings so that this energy could be encoded onto this recording.
The following is the system of healing sounds that are utilized for the CHAKRADANCE:

Overtone chanting, a specific sound healing technique described in HEALING SOUNDS is conscious creation of overtones—sounding two or more notes simultaneously during singing. It is an amazing and powerfully effective sound. Throughout CHAKRADANCE, you will many different sounds—some sounds are the manifestation of a human/cybernetic interface. Others, such as overtone chanting are produced solely through the human voice. As noted, you will hear examples of overtone chanting throughout the world, including the extraordinary Deep Voice chanting of Lama Tashi, as well as many other harmonic singing masters. In addition, the various Sacred Vowels utilized for chakra resonance in this recording have a particular relationship to the overtone series. Singing the Sacred Vowels in this order creates an ascending series of harmonics. Many of the specific Bija Mantras, as well, led to the creation of specific harmonics during their chanting. In addition, during many of the improvisational sections in the different pieces, you will sometimes hear both a normal voice as well as a special voice to produces harmonics. We trust these sounds will enhance the CHAKRADANCE experience for you.
Introducing each chakra is the ringing of a ting-sha—a Tibetan Bell, which sounds the appropriate number of times for the chakra that is being represented. Thus for the the first chakra, the root chakra, you will hear the ting-sha ring once. For the second chakra, the sacral center, the ting-sha rings twice, etc. until when you hear the ting-sha sound seven times, it is introducing the Crown Chakra—the seventh chakra.
This recording is dedicated to all the beings of light, love and sound who have assisted in making CHAKRADANCE a reality. We trust that CHAKRADANCE has achieved our desire of creating dance music with a purpose and that after listening to it, you will be balance and aligned and totally energized by the energies of Light & Love through Sound that have manifested through this recording.
