Ten of the most popular worship songs used in both Catholic and Protestant churches for the past twenty years.

The last thirty years have seen a wealth of musical composition in the church. Vatican II opened the windows of the church to the wind of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit inspired a flood of new music (in response to the liturgical reforms) called for by that historic council.
For many years, people have requested that I record some of these most-beloved contemporary Catholic worship songs. At first, I resisted on the basis that I normally record my own compositions. Finally the sheer numbers of these requests motivated me to reconsider.
Upon researching the songs, I found myself quite inspired by their scriptural and poetic lyrics, as well as their beautiful and extraordinarily singable melodies and choruses.
Musically we have tried to enter into the mystical depths of Catholic Christian spirituality in a way appealing to people of all faiths and goodwill. We have tried to stay well within the style for which I am known, while both resurrecting some of my earlier contemporary sounds and going forward with some more progressive experiments. To facilitate this, we used the world music approach of including instruments and sounds from cultures from around the globe and from ancient times far past. Hopefully we have done this in a way that is both true to our own culture and time, and avoids the manipulation of using these sounds in an artificial or contrived way. Ultimately, this is what it means to be 'catholic,' or 'universally abundant and full.'
Themetically, we have tried to be both catholic and Christian. This means we tried to choose songs thaat lead us to be 'catholic,' and 'Christian' or full of Jesus Christ. If we do this, we will have accomplished our most exalted of musical goals.
