Jason Walker’s voice has always been a force to be reckoned with. Since the age of four, this Pittsburgh native has known that he is meant to sing and through passion, determination, and struggle, he has made it to the big time.
Growing up as a somewhat small town boy, living a few miles outside of Pittsburgh in the town of Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, Jason had always been drawn to music. He honed his craft with performances in any outlet he could find, in schools plays, singing in the church choir, as well as to the radio as a child. Jason was especially drawn to the music of soul divas like Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan, and his favorite of all Kristine W. With inspirations such as these, Jason created his own style, a mix of Soul, Pop, R&B, and House. However, local stages were not big enough for Jason. He wanted more. His breakout moment came in 1999 when he brought down the house with his winning performance at the Harlem based competition “Showtime at the Apollo”. This win gave Jason the dose of confidence he needed to “Go for it!”, and move to New York City. In early 2002, Jason Walker took the city by storm.
With his arrival in New York, Jason tirelessly wrote songs and shopped himself around to various labels, with minimal success. It wasn’t until Jason’s good friend and fellow songwriter, Amanda Cee, introduced him to the hot dance label Junior Vasquez Music (JVM), that he really found his musical home.
“I have met with many different labels since arriving in New York, but none seemed to understand my voice, music, and most importantly, me, more than Junior Vasquez Music”, comments Jason. “Working with Junior and his team, has been a dream come true. It is really amazing to be working with such a legend and on top of it, he really seems to appreciate my sound; pushing me to reach an entirely different level than ever before possible.” It is no wonder he feels so at home at JVM, as like Jason, Junior himself has a strong interest in Soul, House and R&B.
Jason’s first release on the JVM label is entitled “My Life” and it is currently one of the hottest dance tracks on the New York club circuit, appearing as the # 1 Breakout song on Billboard’s Hot Dance Club Play list only days after it’s release. “My Life” enjoyed its most recent success on Billboard’s Hot Dance Club Play list, where it peaked at # 3. In the midst of this song’s success, Jason has appeared at several dance venues in New York performing the hit, entertaining awesome audience review.
Jason is currently working on his sophomore album to be released sometime this year. He also continues to write and sing his music around New York, feeling the audience on new songs to be included on the album.
