Since their inception in 2001, Melbourne’s Grey Daturas have been hailed as one of the loudest and most uncompromising bands in their homeland. Over the course of their career, the trio, comprising of multi instrumentalists Robert Mayson, Bonnie Mercer and Robert MacManus, have been furiously melding low-end drones, free form rhythms, and sludgy psych riffs through complete improvisation. With a hardcore D.I.Y. work ethic, their years of self promoting, touring and releasing of records has gained them global respect from an ever increasing fan base, and has seen them share the same bill with the likes of ISIS, Sunn O)),OM, Circle, Comets on Fire, Neurosis, Residual Echoes and many more leading bands in the psych noise scene. Apart from their greatly received debut album and numerous CDR’s the band have also released highly acclaimed split albums with fellow noise pioneers Wolf Eyes and Yellow Swans, and have future releases lined up with French doom band Monarch and fellow rocketeers, Mammatus. Originally a self released CDR, Path of Niners see’s the band take their sound further into the stratosphere with over 40 minutes of improviational psych-noise and is a taster to what to expect from their second official album which should hit the shops early next year. This latest version of Path of Niners contains an unreleased extra track and also for the first time will be available on ltd vinyl. The release of this album coincides with the bands first European tour which will see them take their unique shows throughout August and September “If the Melbourne sunshine puts a smile on most of its native's faces, this must be compensated for by the scowls of the Grey Daturas, an improvisational three piece intent on wiping all that is bright, clean and decent from the sun kissed land and drowning it in a muddy grave in the gape of the Pacific” The Wire
