A quiet and relaxing journey towards the sea. Starts with the sounds of night insects among forest covered dunes and ends with the sounds of muffled wave crashes among grass covered dunes. Fourteen sound portraits are seamlessly arranged to provide one continuous experience. Atlantic Sunrise is a companion portrait.
Marconi Beach is at the end of a rolling set of dunes that stretch clear across Cape Cod. The oldest dunes are in the interior, protected and covered by trees while the youngest dunes are at the water's edge and bare sand. Our journey begins in the forest at night with the soothing sounds of insects and the booming sounds of distant ocean waves. We then move towards the sea through a series of up and downs, listening to the ever changing soundscape. Dawn arrives, the tide rises, and the landscape changes from trees to shrubs to grasses and finally bare sand.
Listen to Atlantic Sunrise to hear the same beach without the influence of dunes.
Listen to Rialto Beach to hear a Pacific beach with pebbles.
