I was born in Cincinnati Ohio
I grew up in Corbin Kentucky
I moved to Nashville Tennessee
I was in a band that ended up on a major label
We toured the United States
I quit that band and moved to Louisville
My best friend/college roommate started a band with me
We started another band
We toured the United States (east of the Mississippi)
He left that band and started a different band
I stayed in the band with a chick and two other guys
I started getting bored with writing stuff for rock bands and chasing “success”
A few different women really messed me up for a while
I could tell you their names's, but you’d think it uninteresting
I wrote songs about them
Then I started writing other songs about other things
I sent these songs to a guy in Lexington Kentucky
He liked them, which was a slight surprise
I didn’t really know my Grandfather; his name was Gillis
I love my Father; his name is Gillis Ray
I took the name Gillis from them
I just made an EP
I sing and play most of the instruments on it
I’ve never sang in any of the other bands
I guess these songs need me to sing them
