Almost three years ago, long standing North Carolina music scene veteran Gideon Smith (vocals, guitar) started a band with friend and drummer Boo Creepy, formerly of Animal Bag. The rest of the band fell into place quickly and soon they were braving the East Coast tour circuit. Showcasing their southern heritage with full tilt blues based rock and roll, influenced equally by Black Sabbath and Lynyrd Skynyrd, Smith and his gang developed a reputation for being the "real thing." The stage was then set for them to release their debut EP on the Colorado based label Game Two Records. "Gideon Smith & The Dixie Damned" received excellent reviews worldwide and sold out of their initial pressing, sparking the interest of Detroit based Small Stone Records. Gideon and company signed a deal with the label and tore into recording what would become their full length debut, "Southern Gentlemen".
Firmly entrenched in rock and roll's classic mythology Gideon travelled to rock’s world famous birthplace, Sun Studios in Memphis Tennessee, and recorded a live session of blues, rock and outlaw country music, using 50 year old microphones that the “King” himself once spouted off into, and a little of that crossroads magic. Gideon returned from his pilgrimage and presented the band with the fruits of his labors. These magical tracks would prove to be a framework for the band to work around. The songs grew organically (and in most cases psychedelically) like mushrooms in the wild, and before anyone realized it "Southern Gentlemen" had been written, recorded, mixed, and mastered. Gideon Smith & The Dixie Damned are now ready for the world to grasp their interpretation of swampy southern rock. The question being... "Is the world ready for them?"
As Small Stone releases the band's first full length effort, Gideon & The Dixie Damned are set to give the world a shot in the arm. Raw and roll with southern blues roots and a true to life sense of heart and spirit. The all new line up of the Dixie Damned features long time partners in crime and all things musical: guitarist Mike Kelleher, bassist Jose Carlos Wright, guitarist Brad Fury and drummer Boo Creepy. People into bands like The Cult, AC/DC, Skynyrd, and Allman Brothers looking for true rock music without the posturing and trendy cliches can look to Gideon Smith & The Dixie Damned for an addictive take on an old familiar sound.
