Grammy Award winner George Vosburgh and the internationally renown Seattle Symphony Orchestra conducted by Gerard Schwarz give an outstanding performance of four glittering showpieces for trumpet and orchestra by Telemann, Haydn, Hummel, and Leopold Mozart.
"These recordings are perhaps the most sophisticated interpretations heard to date...a definite 'must' for your collection." - International Trumpet Guild Journal
George Vosburgh is internationally acclaimed for his virtuosity on the trumpet in recordings, concerts, and recitals. Since 1992, he has been the Principal trumpet for the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.
In 1994, Mr. Vosburgh organized the Pittsburgh Symphony Brass, a unique brass ensemble featuring some of the world's finest orchestral brass musicians in chamber ensemble. The Brass has enjoyed a flurry of recording
activity on the Four Winds label, including its 1998 debut album "Bach: The Art of Fugue," and two very successful Holiday albums, "A Christmas Concert" and "The Spirit of Christmas."
Vosburgh has also received great attention for his first virtuoso solo recording on Four Winds entitled "Trumpet Masterworks."
During his tenure with the esteemed Seattle Symphony Orchestra, Gerard Schwarz has brought that organazation to its greatest international renown. Together they have produced an extensive discography of more than 65 recordings, earning them ten Grammy nominations, a Time "Top Classical Recording," a Sterio Review "Recording of the Year," and repeated best-selling chart status in Billboard.
In 1994, Mr. Schwarz was named "Conductor of the Year" by Musical America International Directory of the Performing Arts, which cited that "he is one of the great hopes for the future of American symphonic music."
"Four Trumpet Concerti is a quartet of the most prominent trumpet concertos in the repertoire; this is music that Schwarz knows deeply, from his former career as one of the world's great trumpeters (before giving up the instrument for the baton). That sympathy and understanding are both evident in the orchestral backing....hear Grammy Award winner Vosburgh with his smooth tone, immaculate articulation, and stylish technique." - Melinda Bargreen, Seattle Times
