FAST FORWARD is an English composer and musician who lives in New York City. He is best known for his contemporary compositions for percussion, inparticular the Trinidadian steel pan and his music theatre works for diverse instrumentation. He moved to New York in 1981 and has performed his music in the United States, Canada, Japan and Europe.

In the early seventies, he studied media and performance with StuartMarshall in Newcastle, England and thereafter, electronic music with Robert Ashley and David Behrman at Mills College in Oakland, California from 1976-78. In 1993 he curated "The Accident" in conjunction with The Wooster Group, nine evenings of performance music at The Performing Garage in New York City. He recently composed the music for Channels, the latest dance theater work by Parisian-based choreographer Mark Tompkins and he is also currently performing with The Merce Cunningham Dance Company.

He has received several awards and commissions, including the Tenjin Barca festival in Osaka, Japan (1993), the Kunstlerprogram des D.A.A.D. in Berlin (1988-89), the New York State Council on the Arts (1986 & 1992) and the New York Foundation for the Arts (1989). In the autumn of 1996 he will be a resident artist at Kyoto University of the Arts as part of a fellowship from the Asian Cultural Council's Japan--United States Arts Program. His music is available on the XI, Lovely Music, Nova Era, Obsolete and Ear-Rational recording labels.
