“Jetzt geht’s los!”, that is the opening declaration of Emily and the Orgasm Addicts´ brandnew album. And so be it. The debutalbum presents a roaring cocktail of simple rock’n’roll and oldschool british punk.
In the veins under Emilys pale skin, flows true irish blood. Her vocal is flat, plastic and arty. She is flanked by Thea, the glamorous backingsinger and percussionist. The girls are accompanied by a classic powertrio; Joe on guitar, Sly on drums, Fillip on bass.
The eighteen-months-old quintette recorded their debutalbum at Jailhouse Studios in Emilys native town, Horsens, during the late summer of 2007. The whole thing was done i 10 days: several songs were written just a few weeks earlier, the music was recorded live, many of Emilys tracks were first-takes, etc. The relatively unknown producer Morten Voigt, conducted the chaos.
The result is 13 tracks, all of them dealing with sex, defiance, restless idleness and danish drinking. Only one song is more than 3 minutes long. The album is, aswell as the first track, selftitled.
The banana-blowjob-cover probably isn´t in good taste, but that wasn´t the purpose. As in the days of the early britpunk, the band really doesn´t mind to much about the bollocks. If Emily and the Orgasm Addicts contain a message, its probably not explained without at least a few f-words.
And what is really more logical for the maladjusted youth, than to grab instruments and make some “noise”? Not much else, but luckily Emily and the Orgasm Addicts understand how to combine their distrust of authorities with some pop-understanding.
And so danish nationalradio P3 chose to put the single “A Cheaper Kind of Love” in rotation, and the DJ Thomas Madvig said the following:”This is so goddamn cool, it has to be spred! They´re making oldschool rock´n´roll in a The Hives-way. But they have their own sound, with the young and flashy Emily as their singer – and SHE is cool grrrrrrrrrrr.” Later he said: ”This is f**kedif**kf**king awesome!”
The orchestra is famous for an aggresive liveshow – this has brought them as far away as England, Germany and northwest Jutland. At least half a hundred shows has been performed by EATOA, since their origin in spring 2006.
Among the heights there was a supportgig for ”The Spits” in november 2006, a chaotic show, 1:00 am at the 2007-version of the Vesterbro Festival in Copenhagen, and 3 concerts in London during the big ”London Calling”-musicbusinessfestival. The list of EATOA-concerts counts everything from squatter-parties in the hometown Aarhus, to Hotel Royal in Holstebro.
In June 2007 the band sold out and signed with Strange Ears Recordings. The contract contains a distributiondeal with Sonet Records, which is a sublabel of Universal Musics danish department. October the 20th 2007 the debut was released.
”...an extremely heavy, dirty sound, that is also razor-sharp with hissing guitars and crispy drums. It´s adolscent, hedonistic and just about to collapse..” (Soundvenue)
”Besides an energic bombload of guitars and drums, Emily and her orgasmatrons also charge up their eroticism in their fun and crazy expressions as rebellic teenagers, especially with Emilys little-girl-stubbornvocals, the band penetrates the ears and breaks through the eardrums with their raw garagerock and lo-fi vibrations.” (Fyens Stiftstidende)
”Danish/irish Emilys lolita-vocal is manic and different, and Emily And The Orgasm Addicts contain enough good songs to recieve the ”accepted”-stamp. Refreshing!” (Gaffa)
