He was born in La Havana in 1947, Eduardo López “Boniatillo” in one of the drummer with more prestige of Cuba at the moment, inside the genre that he knows better is the Charanga. He is son of famous pianist Jose Luis López who was playing with the Charanga more popular of the moment “Arcaño y Sus Maravillas”. He was living in the musical environment because of his family; since he was young he want to be like his father. The timbale is the instrument that attracts his attention. Finally, it is the instrument that he will develop his artistic career.
Boniato is a peculiar person, he is friend of his friends and he is very close to his Rubalcaba family. He is playing in the Charanga that his father manages for long time now and he have lived very close all that happen in his family in the last years. The advances that all the member of his family gives him develop musically to be in the place that he is today.
Other person that have influence in his life is “EL Boni” who was one of his best friend Juaquin Oliveros “El Jilquero de Centro Habana”. Which one he shares the room when they were travelling around the world. People that know them say that Boniato take a sit to listen to the virtuoso Joaquin who does not stop to study is his free time.
I knew this nice musician in the first compilation in this collection; it was the record of Juaquín Oliveros. “De Bala…..” there he surprise me because of his sound, and the way that he move the fan to the old stile. I was very impress and I offer him to record. The time was passing since we could make it, his production “A. Boniatillo limpio ….” It was a total success in the Charanguero environment.
After long time, we record this second production. However, thing that happen and the death of Jesus Rubalcaba, the musician who had gone with him they were different. Moreover, his best friends the maestro Guillermo Rubalcaba and Joaquín Oliveros had been with him and also a select group of musician friends of them. The repertory was choosing between us Jorge Machado “Machete” and I. Boniato was not sure about what he should select so we authorize him the repertory and it make the arrangement.
If we think about the history we must say that Boniato had passed since his professional beginning in 1961 for the Charanga del 59, Orquesta Ritmo Oriental de Enrique Lazaga and since almost 20 years with the Charanga Rubalcaba, which one are member and big follower. He considers himself as a traditional drummer to the stile of Ulpiano Díaz one of the maestros. We hope that this production, that is full of good music, it arrive to the heart of all the good fans of the Charanga.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
