Earl "Sixteen" Daley' s voice is unmistakeable - a cracked falsetto and a lazy delivery combine to make this voice most poignant particularly when riding a solid roots rythm.

At the age of 15, the strength of his voice was publicly recognised when he won a singing contest, beating serious contenders like Michael Rose (Black Uhuru) and Junior Moore (The Tamlins) along the way.
A bit later, an unplanned recording session led to the first signs of his talent emerging : After accompanying his schoolfriend Winston McAnuff to Joe Gibbs' studio to provide support while his friend recorded a song he had written called Malcolm X, the engineer Errol Thompson, a man with a keen ear, expressed a preference for Earl'’s voice. He subsequently voiced the tune for both Derrick Harriott and Joe Gibbs, both cuts achieving some success around 1975 before being covered by the late great Dennis Brown.
Then, Earl joined for a while the band led by Boris Gardiner, who introduced him to Lee Perry. He recorded several tracks with Hugh Mundell in Lee Perry' s Black Ark studio, among them Freedom, a classic roots tune. He continued to sing backing vocals at many Black Ark sessions including music for Yabby You (Chant Down Babylon Kingdom, Deliver Me From My Enemies).
Earl teamed up with Mikey Dread for some sessions backed by the Roots Radics and mixed by Scientist at King Tubby' s studio.
He also recorded a couple of tunes for Augustus Pablo' s Rockers label towards the later part of the 70s.
In 1985 an album called "Earl 16 Showcase" comes out of the legendary Studio One label, produced by Sir Coxsone Dodd himself, including the hit single "Love is a feeling", one of Earl's most popular songs up to date.
Since 1988, Sixteen lives in England where he has voiced for famous UK producers (Mad Professor, Gussie P, Jah Warrior,...) and has created his own label Merge.
In summer 2004, during a european tour with french band No More Babylon, he has recorded his first live album, « Mash Up The Dance » produced by (A) la folie & Diksud.
