Dubbed "Canada's National Treasure" by Blues-FM Radio Show Host Danny Marks, Diana Braithwaite is a dynamic blues singer who in 1999 was chosen by Sarah Mclachlan as one from 400 singer/songwriters to open Lilith Fair at the Molson Amphitheatre Toronto where she kicked off the show with a powerful opening concert for the 18,000 in attendance. Diana's career as a solo singer/songwriter emerged as a teenager but it was opening a show for John Lee Hooker in Toronto that acclaimed her talent as a blues singer. Later that same year, Albert Collins invited Diana on the road to open the show for his band. Described as the "real Thing" Diana Braithwaite's performances are memorable. A trult gifted performer she "floors the audience" singing well know lively delta blues standards and deep spiritual blues with equal finesse. Diana has worked with some of the finest electric and acoustic blues guitarists including Mel Brown, Son Seals, Magic Slim, T-Model Ford, Robert Cray and Jeff Healey. Diana frequently tours the U.K. and Europe. Her latest recording collaboration is with blues icon and multi-instrumentalist Chris Whiteley. The CD "Morning Sun on the Electro-Fi label is a celebration of Blues music of the 1930's and 40's.
For over 30 years the multi-talented artist Chris Whiteley has been successfully writing, performing and recording music. He has played on over 150 recordings by such diverse artists as Leon Redbone, John Hammond, Blind John Davis and Kenny "Blues Boss" Wayne. In the late 1960's he performed in Toronto coffeehouses with Blues Guitar pioneer Lonnie Johnson. Chris has been nominated for a Juno Award (Canada's Grammy) 6 times and has won the SOCAN Songwriter of the year award. He composed the music for the documentary "The Bunny Years" (about the Playboy Clubs) which has aired on the A&E, BBC and CTV networks with great success.Chris Whiteley has performed throughout North America on television and radio, as well as at Festivals, Clubs and Concerts - including NBC's Saturday Night Live with Leon Redbone, Nashville's famed Bluebird Cafe and was the first Canadian artist to appear at the Chicago Blues Festival. His new Electro-Fi release "Morning Sun" with Diana Braithwaite establishes them as one of the most talented and authentic Blues Duos on the scene today.
